The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of the Turaki led faction has announced plans to hold a Special National Convention for the ratification of the nomination of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, as the party’s presidential candidate.
The development is coming shortly after a recent court ruling reportedly cleared Jonathan as eligible to contest the presidency, a decision that has continued to generate reactions across the country’s political landscape.
According to an official invitation released by the party leadership, the convention is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the ‘A’ Class Event Centre, Kassim Ibrahim Way, Wuse 2, Abuja, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The notice, jointly signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong mnipr, and the National Organising Secretary, Hon. Theophilus Dakas Shan, described the gathering as a crucial step in the party’s preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development has continued to generate reactions within the political space, as many party faithful and stakeholders view the move as part of efforts to reposition the PDP ahead of the next presidential contest.
Political observers say the planned ratification signals a major development within the opposition party and may reshape the political landscape in the coming months.
