Members of the Alagbaka Archdeaconry gathered in large numbers at St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church, Alagbaka, to honour the Most Reverend Simeon Oluwole Borokini, Ph. D, CFAT, during his farewell visit, commemorating the end of a remarkable era of episcopal leadership.
The event, filled with thanksgiving, reflection, and heartfelt tributes, celebrated the Archbishop’s decades of dedicated service to God, the Church and humanity.
Clergy, laity, family and well-wishers who attended in good numbers described the occasion as both emotional and historic, recognising his tremendous impact on the growth of the Church, particularly within the Akure Diocese and the wider Ondo Ecclesiastical Province.
Born on July 15, 1956, Archbishop Borokini was ordained as a Deacon in 1982 and Priested in 1983.
Over the years, he rose through the ranks, becoming a statutory Canon in 1989 , Venerable in 1996 , Provost of St David’s Cathedral in 2008 and later the Bishop of Akure in 2013.
His election as Archbishop in April and Presentation as Archbishop in July ,2022 marked the peak of a life devoted to ministry, leadership, and service.
Speakers at the event reeled out his achievements as a transformative leader, emphasizing that under his guidance, the Diocese experienced significant spiritual and structural growth.
His contributions included strengthening theological education through his role at Archbishop Vining College of Theology where he served as Lecturer for 15 years and became the Registrar of the Institution and his service as Provost of St. David’s Cathedral Church, Ijomu.
Particular emphasis was placed on his legacy within the Alagbaka Archdeaconry.
His approval of financial support for church planting in the area was described as a visionary step that led to the establishment of new worship centres and expanded the reach of the Church.
The creation of Alagbaka as an Archdeaconry seat on December 12, 2024, was also cited as a landmark achievement of his tenure.
While giving their tributes, attendees also acknowledged the support of his wife, Princess Christianah Adetunmbi Borokini, an accomplished educationist and retired school principal, whose partnership was described as instrumental to his successful ministry.
The entire family of the Archbishop was praised for upholding values of faith, service, and leadership.
In his farewell remarks, Archbishop Borokini expressed deep gratitude to God, the congregation, the planning committee, and the entire Archdeaconry for their unwavering support over the years.
He spoke fondly of Alagbaka as a significant part of his journey and thanked members for their love and dedication.
In a lighter moment, he commended Mr. Dare Aragbaiye for his tribute and humorously encouraged him to consider public service, drawing laughter and applause from the audience.
The Archbishop also made an emotional pledge to continue worshipping at St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church, Alagbaka, after his retirement, a gesture that resonated deeply with the congregation.
As the event drew to a close, attendees reflected on the enduring legacy of Archbishop Borokini, describing him as a leader whose life exemplifies integrity, humility, and unwavering commitment to God’s work.
