The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced a new date for the conduct of its State Congress in Ondo State after notifying the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the development.
The party, in a letter dated March 9, 2026, informed the electoral commission that the congress earlier scheduled for March 3 was postponed following an interim order issued by the Federal High Court sitting in Akure which restrained both INEC and the party from proceeding with the exercise.
The letter, jointly signed by the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, and the National Secretary, Ajibola Bashiru, stated that the party had since resolved the issues that led to the legal action.
According to the party, internal mechanisms were activated to address the dispute, leading to an amicable resolution of the issues that prompted the court order.
The APC therefore announced that the rescheduled State Congress will now hold on March 11, 2026, at the International Cultural and Events Centre (The Dome), Akure by 10:00 a.m.
The party apologised to INEC for any inconvenience the change of date might cause and urged the commission to take note of the new arrangement.
The development follows ongoing legal disputes surrounding the conduct of the party’s congresses in the state, which had earlier prompted the court to direct parties involved to maintain the status quo pending further hearing.
It will be recalled that the earlier congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State was marred by violence and disruptions in some parts of the state, as rival party supporters clashed during the exercise, leading to tension and raising concerns over the conduct of the internal party process.
