The Chairman of Akure North Local Government, Hon. Ogunbolude Johnson, has commemorated the Armed Forces Remembrance Day in honour of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives in defence of the country’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
Speaking during the ceremony, Hon. Ogunbolude paid glowing tribute to the courage, patriotism and selfless service of the departed servicemen and women.
He also expressed gratitude to God for the lives of retired and serving military personnel whose dedication, he noted, continues to promote peace and stability across the nation.
As part of the remembrance activities, the council chairman inspected a guard of honour and laid a wreath at the cenotaph in memory of the fallen heroes.
He offered prayers for the repose of their souls and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening security, fostering peace and upholding the ideals for which the nation’s armed forces have stood.
The event was attended by the Chairman of Igbaotun Local Council Development Area, Hon. Oguniyi; members of the Legislative Arm of Akure North Local Government; the Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), Mrs. Adufe; the Chairman of the Council of Obas in Akure North Local Government, the Ogbolu of Ita-Ogbolu, Oba Idowu Aroko Faborode; heads of security agencies, APC leaders and other dignitaries.
In her closing remarks, Mrs. Adufe thanked all guests for their presence and prayed for journey mercies as they returned to their respective destinations.
