Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has announced the release of the 38 worshippers abducted during the attack on Christ Apostolic Church, Oke-Isegun in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area.
The victims, who were taken during a night service earlier in the week, were confirmed freed on Saturday following coordinated efforts by security agencies and the state government.
The governor described their return as a major relief for the state and praised security operatives for what he called a diligent and sustained operation.
He also commended the resilience of the affected families and reassured residents that the government is intensifying measures to prevent further attacks.
According to officials, the victims are receiving medical attention and will soon be reunited with their families.
The church held its first service since the incident, where worshippers expressed gratitude for the safe return of the abducted members while calling for stronger security presence in the community.
Security patrols have since been increased across Eruku and neighbouring areas, with joint operations ongoing to track down the attackers and dismantle their network.
The state government urged residents to remain calm and report suspicious movements as investigations continue.
The governor, however, did not provide details on how the worshippers were released or whether any ransom was paid. He noted that ongoing security operations made it inappropriate to disclose further information, reassuring the public that authorities are still pursuing the perpetrators.
