Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to repositioning the education sector, describing it as the most vital pillar of human development and progress.
Speaking on Monday, October 13, 2025, during the inauguration of the newly appointed members of the Ondo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) at the Cocoa Conference Centre, Governor’s Office, Akure, the governor said the appointments were made strictly on the basis of integrity, competence, and a proven record of service.
Aiyedatiwa said the event represented another milestone in his administration’s ongoing effort to strengthen the foundation of education in the Sunshine State.
“From the very beginning of this administration, we made a solemn commitment to reposition our education sector, not as a mere policy statement, but as a living promise to the children and youth of Ondo State.
That is why we continue to invest deliberately in education and empower the institutions that regulate and support our teachers,” the governor stated.
Describing TESCOM as the “heart of the public education system,” Aiyedatiwa charged the newly inaugurated board members to uphold fairness, humility, and dedication in discharging their duties.
“You are stepping into an agency that directly impacts the lives and livelihoods of thousands of teachers, and by extension, the destinies of countless students across our state,” he said.
“TESCOM’s decisions shape the welfare, discipline, and professional growth of our teachers, who in turn shape the minds of our future leaders.”
The governor noted that significant progress had been made in the education sector, including the recruitment of new teachers, renovation of school infrastructure, and enhanced monitoring mechanisms.
He stressed the importance of continuous training and professional development for teachers to keep pace with global educational standards.
“The world is changing rapidly, and so must our teachers. A teacher who stops learning cannot effectively inspire learning in others,” Aiyedatiwa said.
“A motivated teacher produces a confident student, and confident students build a confident society.”
In his goodwill message, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, commended the governor’s leadership and his commitment to sustaining Ondo State’s long-standing reputation for excellence in education.
Fasoranti cited recent national awards won by two teachers from the state as evidence of the governor’s investment paying off.
“We have a standard in Nigeria, and Ondo State has always been at the top,” he said. “The governor’s initiatives are clearly yielding positive results.”
In her acceptance remarks, the new TESCOM Chairman, Dr. Oluwadaisi Idowu Oke, expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to serve, pledging to justify the trust placed in her and her team.
“This appointment is based on discipline, experience, and dedication. We will work tirelessly to justify the confidence reposed in us,” she assured.
Dignitaries present at the ceremony included the Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami; Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa; former Governor Alhaji Ali Olanusi; APC chieftain Chief Olusola Oke; Director General of OSRC Media Group, Mr. Kenneth Odusola-Stevenson; Chairman of SUBEB, Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan; traditional rulers, and top government officials.
The event was described as a reaffirmation of the Aiyedatiwa administration’s dedication to integrity-driven governance and educational excellence in Ondo State.
