Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to expedite the signing of the bill establishing the Federal University of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State.
This appeal was made in a communiqué issued at the end of the union’s monthly congress held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the NUJ Press Centre, Alagbaka, Akure. The congress, presided over by the State Chairman, Prince Leke Adegbite, had in attendance journalists from various chapels across the state.
The union commended the National Assembly for the swift passage of the bill and described the proposed institution as a significant step toward advancing technological education and youth empowerment in the region. It emphasized the urgent need for the President’s assent to fast-track the university’s take-off.
“The establishment of the Federal University of Information and Communication Technology in Ikare-Akoko is a welcome development that will not only boost digital education but also open up economic opportunities in Ondo North. We therefore appeal to President Tinubu to sign the bill into law without delay,” the communiqué read in part.
The congress also used the occasion to celebrate the successful 70th anniversary of the NUJ and urged journalists nationwide to remain steadfast in upholding the ethics of the profession.
The communiqué was signed by Olaoluwa Meshack, the NUJ State Secretary, on behalf of the union.
