Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has lashed out at the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that the party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, has no authority to instruct National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu to resume duties at the party’s national secretariat.
Wike made the remarks on Wednesday during the commissioning of the newly constructed interchange bridge on Arterial Road N20 (Wole Soyinka Way) over the Outer Northern Expressway (Murtala Mohammed Expressway) in Abuja.
The former Rivers State Governor criticized Damagum’s directive, arguing that Anyanwu is not an appointee of the Acting Chairman and has been diligently performing his duties.
“I watched on national television where the Acting National Chairman of PDP directed the National Secretary to resume,” Wike said. “The National Secretary is not your appointee. He has been working, and he doesn’t require anyone’s directive to resume his duties.”
Wike also condemned a recent visit by Damagum and other PDP leaders to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), calling it a sign of ignorance and poor leadership.
“If because of your ignorance of the law – too bad. The law does not recognize your ignorance. I feel so bad when people now move to INEC to tell them to obey Supreme Court judgment,” he said. “It’s most unfortunate.”
The minister urged the party’s leadership to seek guidance from more experienced members rather than make costly political missteps.
“When you don’t know something, ask the right people. Don’t let ego or the attraction of monthly allocations mislead you,” Wike stated. “Money doesn’t solve all problems. If you want to learn, come and meet us , we’ll teach you how to go about it.”
