Oluwatoyin Alao-Aderinto, the first daughter of the late former governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, has approached the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan seeking an order for a DNA test to verify the paternity of seven individuals claiming to be biological children of the deceased.
In a suit marked I/443/2024 and filed through her legal counsel, Oladipo Olasope, Alao-Aderinto is requesting that the DNA tests be carried out at a court-recognized and accredited facility. The individuals named in the suit include herself, Olamide, Adebukola, Olamipo, Olamiju (currently serving in the House of Representatives), Tabitha, and Olamikunle.
The legal action follows growing contention surrounding the management and sharing of the late governor’s vast estate, which includes assets in Nigeria, Ghana, the UK, and the US — such as a luxury hotel in Ghana, high-end vehicles, and several bank accounts with large sums in naira, dollars, and pounds.
The suit targets Kemi Alao-Akala, widow of the late governor, and Olamide Alabi, one of the claimants to his legacy. The duo is accused of securing a letter of administration over the estate without the consent of other potential heirs. Alao-Aderinto argues that this was done with the intent to monopolize control and exclude others from their rightful inheritance.
She is also praying the court to declare the obtained letter of administration as null and void and to issue a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from selling or transferring any portion of the estate pending a proper legal resolution.
The court is expected to hear the case in the coming weeks as the controversy over the late governor’s legacy continues to unfold.
