In a renewed commitment to youth development, the Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has promised to increase employment and empowerment opportunities for young people across the state.
Speaking during an interactive session with youth stakeholders at The Dome, Akure, the governor described the youth as the “backbone of the state’s development” and pledged to deepen his administration’s focus on their growth and wellbeing.
He unveiled his administration’s 7-point developmental agenda, tagged “Our Ease”, focusing on security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, power, rural and urban development, and technology.
Highlighting achievements so far, Governor Aiyedatiwa noted the payment of WAEC and NABTEB fees, scholarships and bursaries, recruitment of over 2,000 teachers, and the establishment of Youth Skill Centres under the One-Youth-One-Skill scheme.
“We have provided nano grants to 5,000 youths and engaged 15,000 in labour-intensive public workforce programmes,” he said.
The governor also assured the appointment of a young person as Commissioner for Youth Affairs, in response to calls from youth representatives across the three senatorial districts.
On security, he affirmed the government’s collaboration with security agencies to flush out criminal elements: “We will not allow criminals to have comfort in our State,” he declared.
Urging the youth to harness government programmes positively, he stated: “We believe in you and are committed to supporting you… Let us not dissipate our God-given talents and energies on negative tendencies. We must work together to promote peace, build community, and unleash your potential.”
The event was attended by key government officials, including Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami, APC State Chairman Engr. Ade Adetimehin, and top aides. Security updates were also provided by Amotekun Commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, who reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to ensure safety across the state.
