President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a skills acquisition centre and a 1,000-megawatt power project for Jos, in a move aimed at boosting economic growth and addressing unemployment in Plateau State.
The approvals were conveyed to Governor Caleb Mutfwang during a high-level engagement with federal representatives, as part of ongoing efforts by the administration to stimulate development across key sectors.
The proposed skills acquisition centre is expected to equip youths with practical and employable skills, thereby reducing unemployment and enhancing productivity in the state. It will be implemented with the support of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).
In addition, the 1,000MW power project forms part of a broader energy initiative targeted at improving electricity supply in Northern Nigeria. The project is expected to enhance industrial activities, attract investments, and improve the overall standard of living in the region.
Officials noted that the initiative would be driven through strategic partnerships, including collaboration with international stakeholders, to ensure sustainable power generation and distribution.
Governor Mutfwang described the approvals as timely and transformative, noting that they would significantly address infrastructure gaps, create jobs, and support economic stability in Plateau State.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive development, emphasizing that the projects align with ongoing efforts to strengthen energy capacity and empower Nigerian youths through skills development.
