The President said the initiative is designed to recognise the sacrifices and commitment of the nation’s security forces, including those wounded in active service and the families of fallen heroes.
Speaking during the announcement, Tinubu paid tribute to members of the Armed Forces, describing them as the backbone of the country’s security and stability. “Today, I celebrate the courageous men and women who keep our nation safe,” he said.
He directed the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation to immediately open a special account to manage the fund. According to him, the fund will cater to the welfare of serving personnel, injured officers, and dependents of deceased soldiers, including widows, widowers, and children.
As part of his personal commitment, the President pledged to donate all his salaries since assuming office as seed funding for the initiative.
Tinubu also called on state governors, members of the National Assembly, private sector stakeholders, and well-meaning Nigerians to support the fund, stressing that the welfare of the Armed Forces is a collective responsibility.
He noted that caring for military personnel and their families should not be seen as charity but as a duty owed to those who risk their lives to protect the nation.
The initiative is expected to strengthen morale within the Armed Forces and provide much-needed support for families affected by the demands of military service.
