Concerns have been raised over the alleged non-execution of the Owena-Alade Idanre Road project, an Ondo State Government infrastructure project, despite the disbursement of hundreds of millions of naira for its construction and rehabilitation.
Findings by Tracka, an accountability and transparency platform and a project of BudgIT Nigeria, revealed that between April and November 2024, a total sum of ₦371.7 million was paid to H.K. Flamingo Consulting Ltd for the construction and rehabilitation of the Owena–Alade Idanre Road.
In addition, ₦33.2 million was reportedly disbursed in August 2024 for the production engineering design of the same road project.
However, Tracka’s investigation shows that the Ondo State Government project has not been executed, as the road remains in a deplorable condition despite the funds released. The organisation stated that there is no visible evidence of construction or rehabilitation work on the project site.
In light of these findings, Tracka has called on the Federal Ministry of Works, the implementing agency, to provide Nigerians with a clear account of how the funds allocated to the project were utilised and to immediately mobilise the contractor to site.
The platform also appealed to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the project for possible mismanagement of public funds and make its findings available to the public.
Tracka reiterated that the disclosure is part of its mandate to promote transparency, accountability and citizen engagement in public spending, urging relevant authorities to act swiftly in the interest of the people and ensure value for money on publicly funded projects.
