The Western Nigeria Multimodal Transport Committee was officially inaugurated today, uniting representatives of the six state governments in the Southwest, the leadership of the Southwest Development Commission (SWDC), transportation stakeholders, railway experts, and other sector leaders.
The newly inaugurated committee has been mandated to spearhead the advancement of railway transportation systems and infrastructure across the region.
Its creation is expected to enhance economic integration, ease of movement, and regional connectivity among the six Southwestern states.
Speaking at the event, stakeholders emphasized the importance of a modern railway network as a backbone for sustainable development, noting that efficient multimodal transport would reduce road congestion, lower logistics costs, and improve trade within and outside the region.
The committee is set to begin work immediately, focusing on strategic planning, coordination of resources, and collaboration with both public and private partners to accelerate the delivery of rail projects that will serve as a model for integrated transport development in Nigeria.
