The Ondo state police command has affirmed the death of an officer of the National Drug Law enforcement agency in Ita’nla area of Ondo town on Tuesday, while on a raid mission resulting to the death of an operative of the Agency (NDLEA), identified as Jide
The officer was attached to the Ondo Command of the NDLEA and was shot dead by suspected drug peddlers during a raid on an apartment.
According to a source, the NDLEA team had received a tip that drugs were hidden in the ceiling of the apartment and stormed the building to recover the exhibits. While some officers entered the building, Jide stood outside as a sentry guard. It was during this time that suspected gunmen emerged and opened fire on him, shooting him in the neck.
The officer was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident and stated that the police had reinforced their presence at the scene. Four prime suspects were arrested, and a single-barrel gun was recovered.
The police are collaborating with the NDLEA to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to book. Ayanlade assured that the investigation would be thorough, and those responsible for the killing would face justice.
The death of the NDLEA operative has sent shockwaves through the agency and the community. The NDLEA and the police are working together to ensure that justice is served and that those responsible for the killing are held accountable.
