Team Nigeria has solidified its position as Africa’s top-performing country after seven days of intense competition at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, maintaining an impressive fifth-place standing on the overall medal table.
Official updates released by the National Sports Commission confirm that Nigerian athletes have accumulated a total of 16 medals, comprising eight gold, five silver, and three bronze podium finishes. This remarkable haul spans multiple sporting disciplines, including Para Powerlifting, Weightlifting, Athletics, Boxing, and 3×3 Basketball.
Nigeria’s dominance has been anchored by exceptional performances across both adaptive and able-bodied sports. In Para Powerlifting, athletes such as Esther Nworgu, Folashade Oluwafemiayo, and Riluwan Idris secured decisive gold medals in their respective weight divisions.
The weightlifting squad added further strength to the tally with victories from Edidiong Joseph Umoafia, Onome Omolola Didih, and Rafiatu Folashade Lawal. Meanwhile, Para Athletics yielded world-class results, highlighted by Goodness Nwachukwu’s record-shattering gold-medal performance in the discus alongside her silver-medal effort in shot put.
Further boosting Nigeria’s campaign, key podium finishes in track and field, boxing, and 3×3 basketball have kept the nation comfortably ahead of regional rivals on the continental leaderboard.
As the Games enter their final stretch, Team Nigeria remains well-positioned to complete one of its most successful international outings in recent history.
