The Ondo State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has issued a public warning over the alleged impersonation of its leadership by a staff member of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO).
In an official statement signed by the recognized State Chairman, Comrade Omomowo Babatunde, the youth body alleged that Mr. Ogunmolawa Matthew has been parading himself within Akure, the Ondo State capital, as the Chairman of the council.
Dispelling the claim, the council affirmed that Comrade Omomowo Babatunde remains the sole validly elected and recognized State Chairman, having emerged through a state congress election involving affiliated Voluntary Youth Organizations in August 2025.
”His mandate remains valid, and he is the only person authorized to act and speak in that capacity,” the statement read, urging the general public, government entities, and corporate stakeholders to disregard any other individuals laying claim to the office.
The youth organization called on the Acting Rector of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Engr. (Dr.) Lawson Olorunwa Sunday, to launch an urgent investigation into Mr. Ogunmolawa’s conduct to protect the institutional integrity of both the polytechnic and the NYCN.
Additionally, the council alerted security agencies across Ondo State , including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) , to intervene and take legal steps to prevent further acts of impersonation.
Reiterating its commitment to peace and order, the NYCN assured residents that Ondo State youths remain law-abiding and focused on using constitutional means to safeguard the integrity of the organization.
