•••Project to be known as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Coastal Highway as Umahi says move recognises President’s vision behind landmark infrastructure.
The Federal Government has officially renamed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Coastal Highway, in honour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s role in conceiving and driving the ambitious infrastructure project.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, who said the decision was taken to recognise President Tinubu’s vision, commitment and leadership in initiating one of Nigeria’s largest road infrastructure projects.
According to Umahi, the coastal highway represents a transformative national development initiative designed to enhance connectivity, stimulate economic growth, boost tourism, create employment opportunities and unlock investments along Nigeria’s Atlantic coastline.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway stretches from Lagos through several coastal states to Cross River State. When completed, the multi-lane expressway is expected to improve the movement of people and goods, reduce travel time, and strengthen trade and regional integration across the southern corridor.
The project forms a key component of the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope infrastructure agenda and has been described by the Federal Government as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s long-term economic development.
Since construction commenced, the highway has generated public debate over its scope, funding, environmental impact and compensation for affected property owners. However, the Federal Government has maintained that the project will deliver lasting economic benefits and significantly improve transport infrastructure across the country.
With the renaming, the project will henceforth be officially referred to as the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Coastal Highway, marking one of the few major national infrastructure projects named after a sitting Nigerian president
