President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, has flagged off the construction of the ₦2.4 trillion Abuja City Walk Project, a world-class mixed-use urban development designed to transform the Federal Capital Territory into a leading destination for business, tourism and investment.
The project, located on a 250-hectare site along the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Road within the Abuja Free Trade Zone, is modelled after Dubai’s iconic City Walk and is expected to redefine the capital city’s skyline.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike described the development as a landmark investment under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He disclosed that the Federal Capital Territory Administration has completed all access roads leading to the project site, paving the way for construction activities to commence immediately.
At the heart of the development is a 450-metre skyscraper projected to become Africa’s tallest tower. The project will also feature premium commercial and retail spaces, luxury residential apartments, hotels, healthcare facilities, educational institutions and other mixed-use infrastructure designed to create a modern urban district.
The Abuja City Walk will also house a 13,000-seat indoor arena, expected to become Nigeria’s largest indoor sports and entertainment venue. In addition, the project includes an Arts District with approximately 12,000 square metres of exhibition and performance space aimed at promoting Nigeria’s creative and cultural industries.
A major environmental component of the development is “The Living Ravine,” an ecological corridor built around a sustainable “Sponge District” concept. The system will utilise wetlands, swales and green waterways for flood control, rainwater harvesting, environmental conservation and climate resilience.
The multi-purpose development is expected to generate thousands of jobs during construction and operation, attract significant domestic and foreign investment, stimulate economic growth, and position Abuja among Africa’s foremost smart cities for commerce, innovation, culture and entertainment.
