Renowned Nigerian billionaire businesswoman, philanthropist and Group Managing Director of the Rose of Sharon Group, Mrs. Folorunso Alakija, has celebrated her 75th birthday, earning widespread commendation for her remarkable contributions to healthcare, education and humanitarian service.
One of the defining legacies of her philanthropy is the donation of the ₦34 billion Modupe and Folorunso Alakija Medical Research and Training Hospital to Osun State University. The state-of-the-art facility, one of the largest private donations to Nigeria’s healthcare sector, was established to strengthen medical education, research and quality healthcare delivery.
The hospital is equipped with 250 admission beds, 20 clinical departments, five non-clinical departments, a community health unit, maternity and neonatal care services, advanced research and diagnostic laboratories, four state-of-the-art operating theatres, CT scan, MRI, ultrasound and X-ray facilities, radiotherapy suites, 16 intensive care units (ICUs), an ophthalmology unit and several other modern medical facilities.
Beyond the landmark hospital project, Alakija has, over the years, invested in numerous initiatives aimed at empowering vulnerable communities, supporting education, promoting healthcare and improving the lives of countless Nigerians through her philanthropic foundation.
Marking her 75th birthday, the celebrated entrepreneur reflected on God’s faithfulness throughout her life’s journey, saying:
“Looking back over the years, I can only say that God has been faithful. To Him alone be all the glory.” (Psalm 92:12–15).
Born in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Mrs. Folorunso Alakija remains one of Africa’s most influential business leaders and philanthropists. Her diamond jubilee is being celebrated as a tribute to a lifetime of enterprise, compassion and enduring service to humanity.
