Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled an attempted infiltration by suspected ISWAP terrorists at Cross Kauwa in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, killing several insurgents and uncovering what the military described as evidence of foreign involvement in the terrorist group’s operations.
The failed attack occurred around 10:20 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, when the insurgents allegedly attempted to overrun the military position under the cover of darkness.
According to the military, alert troops detected the movement early and responded with sustained firepower, forcing the attackers to retreat after suffering heavy casualties.
During the operation, soldiers recovered a Sony camcorder from a slain terrorist cameraman. The military said preliminary forensic analysis of the device revealed operational videos and propaganda materials allegedly linking the planned assault to four senior ISWAP commanders and three foreign terrorist facilitators.
According to Operation HADIN KAI, the foreign nationals identified in the preliminary analysis include a Palestinian identified as Abu Ishaq, described as an overall trainer for the group, a Moroccan identified as Abu Thaiba, said to be a medical doctor working within the terrorist network, and another Arab operative whose identity is yet to be established.
The military stated that the findings suggest ISWAP continues to receive external support and specialist expertise through transnational terrorist connections.
Troops also recovered ammunition, terrorist uniforms and other combat equipment during follow up exploitation operations.
Satellite imagery and human intelligence reportedly indicated that the fleeing insurgents evacuated several bodies of their fighters, while many others sustained gunshot wounds.
Two soldiers were wounded during the exchange of fire and were airlifted for advanced medical treatment. The military said both personnel are in stable condition.
Operation HADIN KAI said the latest operation represents another major setback for ISWAP and reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups across the North-East until lasting peace and security are restored.
