Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the implementation of the new federal salary review for medical officers and health workers in the state, a move aimed at improving welfare and strengthening healthcare delivery.
The approval was disclosed on Wednesday by the Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philip, during the annual get-together and send-off ceremony organised for retired permanent secretaries and tutors-general in Akure.
Philip said the decision makes Ondo State one of the early states in the country to adopt the reviewed salary structure for health workers and medical officers, describing the development as a major boost for the state’s healthcare sector.
He noted that the governor has continued to prioritise workers’ welfare through prompt payment of salaries, settlement of retirees’ entitlements and expansion of the civil service workforce.
According to him, the state government is also planning to recruit more health workers to strengthen manpower across public health institutions in the state.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, while addressing the gathering, reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving productivity in the civil service through better welfare packages and institutional reforms.
The governor also praised retired permanent secretaries and senior civil servants for their dedication to public service, describing them as valuable assets whose wealth of experience remains relevant to governance and policy implementation.
Aiyedatiwa said his administration would continue to tap into the expertise and institutional memory of retired administrators to strengthen governance and enhance service delivery across the state.
In his welcome address, Chairman of the Forum of Ondo State Permanent Secretaries, Mr. Segun Odusanya, commended the governor for reforms targeted at improving efficiency and professionalism within the civil service.
He described the forum as a platform designed to promote administrative discipline, continuity and welfare among serving and retired permanent secretaries.
Traditional ruler, the Orungberuwa of Ode-Erinje Kingdom, Oba Oladele Akinmoye, alongside the President of the Association of Retired Permanent Secretaries, Mrs. Mojisola Grace Ajayi, also praised the state government for supporting retirees and improving their welfare.
Responding on behalf of the retired permanent secretaries, Mr. Bunmi Alade expressed appreciation to the government, saying retirement should be seen as a fulfilment of service rather than an end to relevance.
