The Nigeria Police Force, Zone 2 Command, has uncovered a drug trafficking syndicate in Lagos State, leading to the seizure of suspected Canadian Loud valued at about ₦7.8 billion and the arrest of several suspects, including an alleged kingpin, Eke Henry Ifeanyi.
The operation, carried out by the Special Protection Unit (SPU) in collaboration with divisional detectives, followed months of intelligence-led surveillance coordinated from the Zone 2 Headquarters.
Police officers reportedly stormed an apartment in Mende, Maryland, where the illicit substances were allegedly stored and packaged.
Assistant Inspector General of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, confirmed that the suspect was arrested on May 19 after sustained monitoring, with coordinated support from the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and other tactical units.
Jimoh further revealed that the suspect attempted to compromise the operation with a ₦500 million bribe.
According to him: “The suspect offered ₦500 million to the SPU commander in an attempt to make the team stand down and allow him to contact his associates to move the consignment elsewhere. The offer was rejected immediately and properly documented for further investigation.”
He described the rejection of the bribe as a demonstration of professionalism and improved intelligence driven policing, which ensured the successful containment of the operation without interference or loss of evidence.
The police confirmed that all exhibits have been secured for prosecution, while investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the trafficking network.
