The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the mysterious death of two crew members found inside a vehicle on a movie set in Lekki Phase 1.
The incident, which occurred on February 7, 2026, has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s film industry, raising concerns over safety conditions on production locations.
The deceased were identified as Ekemini Imeh, popularly known as “GeeTee,” a lighting director, and Ayodeji Walter Odediran, a creative video director also known as Director Carrington. Both were part of a production crew working on a film project in the upscale Lagos neighbourhood.
According to reports by The Punch, the two men had arrived early at the location to set up lighting equipment before retiring to rest inside a parked vehicle while awaiting further instructions.
Crew members reportedly became alarmed after the pair could no longer be reached. They were later discovered unresponsive inside the vehicle and were confirmed dead at the scene.
Police authorities said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, for detailed investigation. Officers have also commenced the review of CCTV footage recovered from the premises.
The command’s spokesperson said the bodies have been deposited in the morgue for autopsy, while toxicology tests are expected to determine the exact cause of death.
The tragic development has sparked reactions within the film community, with industry stakeholders calling for a thorough investigation and improved safety measures on movie sets across Lagos and beyond.
Police assured the public that findings of the investigation would be made known upon conclusion.
