The Obidient Movement has outlined clear conditions and strategic targets for its participation in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), insisting that its continued engagement is tied to transparency, credibility, and fairness in the party’s presidential nomination process.
Speaking on behalf of the Movement, its National Coordinator, Dr Tanko Yunusa, said the Obidient Movement is presently backing Mr Peter Obi’s presidential ambition within the ADC but will only remain committed if the process aligns with democratic principles and the party’s constitution.
Yunusa explained that the Movement’s primary target in the ADC is to secure the party’s presidential ticket for Peter Obi through a credible and inclusive process that reflects the will of party members and Nigerians at large.
According to him, the Movement’s conditions include a transparent nomination process, internal democracy, equal opportunity for all aspirants, and strict adherence to the rule of law.
He stressed that the Obidient Movement is not aligned with any plan that would relegate Peter Obi to a vice-presidential role, reiterating that its support is solely for his emergence as President of Nigeria.
Yunusa added that the Movement’s participation in the ADC is driven by its broader objective of national renewal, economic recovery, and accountable governance, noting that the platform must reflect Obi’s leadership vision and values.
He further stated that should the ADC’s process fall short of expectations, the Movement would collectively and democratically review its position in line with its core principles.
The Obidient Movement coordinator reaffirmed that the group remains peaceful, law-abiding, and focused on mobilising Nigerians across the country to support credible leadership.
“Our loyalty is to the vision of good governance and to the emergence of Peter Obi as President of Nigeria, not to political convenience,” Yunusa said.
He called on party stakeholders and Nigerians to support a transparent process capable of delivering the leadership the country urgently needs.
