Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has signed the ₦524.41 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill, christened the Budget of Economic Consolidation, into law.
The signing ceremony took place on Monday, December 29, 2025, at the Executive Council Chamber of the Governor’s Office in Akure.
Governor Aiyedatiwa described the assent as more than a constitutional obligation, noting that it represents a reaffirmation of the administration’s commitment to sustainable development, economic stability and long-term prosperity of the state.
The 2026 budget comprises ₦220.83 billion for recurrent expenditure, representing 42.11 per cent, and ₦303.58 billion for capital expenditure, amounting to 57.89 per cent, reflecting a strong emphasis on infrastructure and economic growth.
According to the governor, the budget serves as a strategic framework designed to address prevailing national economic challenges while positioning Ondo State for resilience, self-reliance and inclusive growth.
He said priority would be given to agriculture and food security through modern farming techniques, support for smallholder farmers and improved access to credit facilities. Human capital development will also be enhanced through investments in education, school rehabilitation, teacher training and digital skills acquisition.
Governor Aiyedatiwa added that critical infrastructure projects in roads, power and water supply would be completed or initiated to improve the business environment and stimulate economic activities across the state.
He further reiterated his administration’s resolve to expand internally generated revenue through technology-driven and transparent tax systems, widening of the revenue base and blocking of leakages.
The governor charged all Ministries, Departments and Agencies to strictly align their programmes with the approved budget and ensure prudent, timely and efficient execution of projects.
Describing the budget as a covenant with the people, Aiyedatiwa urged residents of the state to take ownership of government projects and actively participate in their implementation.
He commended members of the Ondo State House of Assembly for the speedy and thorough passage of the budget, praising the Chairman and members of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, led by Hon Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, for their diligence and professionalism. He also applauded the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget for its technical input in preparing the document.
A breakdown of the sectoral allocations shows that ₦144 billion was earmarked for infrastructural development, ₦95 billion for public finance, ₦64.5 billion for education and ₦59.5 billion for health, among other key sectors.
Earlier, Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji, lauded Governor Aiyedatiwa for infrastructural transformation across the state, particularly in Akure, which he said now reflects the status of a true state capital.
The Speaker also highlighted legislative achievements, including laws regulating community activities, prohibiting kidnapping, registering domestic staff, establishing the State Road Fund and creating coastal and waterways management agencies.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr Olaolu Akindolire, described the 2026 budget as realistic, strategic and people-oriented. He disclosed that the budget projections include federal and non-federal assistance, internally generated revenue, grants and aid, as well as ₦72.92 billion in planned borrowing tied to development and intellectual capital projects.
