The Lagos State Police Command has intensified its investigation into the death of Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, former SDP governorship candidate in Ondo State, following a forensic autopsy that reportedly confirmed his death was a homicide.
Authorities have detained nine individuals, including five immediate family members and four of his aides, as part of the ongoing probe into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The investigation gained public attention after images circulated showing bruises on Akingboye’s body, raising suspicions of foul play. Police have sealed off his residence in Victoria Garden City, Ajah, to collect forensic and biological evidence that could provide clarity on how he died.
Akingboye’s eldest son, Samuel, has called for a full and transparent investigation, requesting that the Inspector General of Police personally oversee the case to prevent any possible bias or interference.
Tensions have arisen within the family following claims by Akingboye’s second wife that she possesses a copy of the autopsy report, which reportedly details injuries including broken ribs and a fractured skull.

The Lagos Police Commissioner has reassured the public that forensic teams are meticulously examining all evidence and pledged that “no stone will be left unturned” in determining the truth behind Akingboye’s death.
