The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized counterfeit malaria drugs worth over ₦1.2 billion in Lagos State.
The interception involved 277 cartons of fake and unregistered Malamal Forte, discovered in a warehouse in the Ilasa-Oshodi area. The products, imported from Shanxi Tianyuan Pharmaceuticals Group in China, were smuggled into the country under false declarations.
They were disguised as spare parts and concealed in cartons labelled as Diclofenac Potassium 50mg.
Confirming the development, NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said the operation was part of ongoing nationwide efforts to rid the country of fake medicines.
She stressed that the Agency, with the full backing of the Presidency and the Federal Ministry of Health, remains committed to eliminating counterfeit and substandard drugs from circulation.
Prof. Adeyeye added that the seizure reaffirms NAFDAC’s resolve to protect public health and ensure that Nigerians have access only to safe and quality medicines.
