•••Govt To Begin Biometric Verification of Public Servants
In a bid to foster grassroots leadership, improve public infrastructure, and streamline governance, Ondo State Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has approved the appointment of four traditional rulers and the recognition of two new stools in the state.
The announcement, made during a State Executive Council meeting in Akure, underscores the governor’s commitment to enhancing governance at all levels. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, disclosed the names of the newly appointed Obas: Prince Hosea Julius Bladapo (Takunbe of Ipoke, Ese Odo), Prince Akingomi Olasehinde John (Laragunsin of Ode-Iyansan, Irele), Prince Babatunde Michael Ayeyoma (Lumure of Ayeka, Okitipupa), and Prince Oyetayo Ofoaye (Alaboto of Aboto, Ilaje). The newly recognized stools are Olusin of Owalusin (Akoko South) and Onitedo of Mahintedo (Ilaje).
Biometric Verification and Minimum Wage Implementation
The government also announced plans to commence biometric verification of public servants to streamline workforce data and enhance efficiency in the civil service.
“The essence of this biometric verification is to know the respective levels of every public servant. It is not intended to scare anyone but rather to ensure accountability within the system,” stated Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philip.
He further confirmed the commencement of the new minimum wage of N73,000, with civil servants receiving salaries reflecting the increase.
“On behalf of all public servants in Ondo State, I express our gratitude to Governor Aiyedatiwa for keeping to his promise. I urge civil servants to double their productivity and make the all-round development of the state their priority,” he said.
Infrastructure and Education
To boost educational infrastructure, Governor Aiyedatiwa has released N500 million for the construction of a senate building at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, with another N500 million set for inclusion in the 2025 budget.
Commissioner for Education, Laolu Akindolire, noted plans for renovations across primary, secondary, and technical schools in the state. “The governor is unwavering in his dedication to enhancing the learning environment for our students,” he said.
Health and Public Safety
On health matters, Special Adviser on Health, Prof. Simidele Odimayo, highlighted a significant drop in Lassa fever cases, thanks to collaborative efforts between the government and residents. However, he warned residents to maintain hygiene to prevent cholera outbreaks and other public health challenges.
Empowering the Youth
Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Emmanuel Igbasan, outlined upcoming skill acquisition programs aimed at empowering youths to become wealth creators.
The State Executive Council reaffirmed its commitment to projects that will uplift the socio-economic status of residents. “Governor Aiyedatiwa is focused on improving the quality of life for residents, and 2025 will mark a turning point in the state’s development,” stated Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Otunba Wale Akinlosotu.
