Former President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governor-elect in Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on what he described as a “prized, historic electoral victory” in the recently concluded gubernatorial election.
In a statement released on Sunday, Buhari expressed his optimism that the incoming administration and the party that lost would work collaboratively to sustain democracy and continue the development of the state.
Buhari extended his heartfelt congratulations to Senator Okpebholo and the APC, praising the party for its hard-fought victory and expressing hopes for a brighter future for Edo State under the new leadership.
“Congratulations to the APC and the election winner, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on the historic electoral victory. My warmest wishes for a new lease of life for Edo State and its people,” Buhari said.
He emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration between political winners and losers, encouraging both sides to work together to strengthen democratic principles in the state.
“I very much hope the winners and the losers would work together to strengthen democracy and maintain the trajectory of development in Edo State,” Buhari added.
The former president also commended the law enforcement agencies for their role in ensuring a peaceful election and praised the election officials for their ongoing efforts to improve electoral processes.
He acknowledged the importance of conducting fair and credible elections in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
Buhari however said a prayer for continued progress in Nigeria’s democratic journey, expressing his belief that the country will continue to make remarkable strides in governance under democracy.
The election saw the APC candidate defeat the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Asue Ighodalo and Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata, marking a key victory for the ruling party in the state.
