Embattled former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has finally responded to the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding issues raised during his tenure as governor.
In a statement released by his media office, signed by Ohiare Michael, the Director, it was confirmed that the former governor presented himself at the EFCC headquarters to address the allegations.
The statement read in part, “Former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello today honoured the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The former Governor, who has great respect for the rule of law and constituted authority, had, all the while, only sought the enforcement of his fundamental rights in order to ensure due process.”
The statement emphasized that Governor Bello’s legal team had consistently represented him in court, assuring the public of his commitment to transparency.
“It is important for the former Governor to now honour the invitation of the EFCC to clear his name as he has nothing to hide and nothing to fear,” the statement continued.
Yahaya Bello, who played a role in implementing anti-corruption frameworks in Kogi State during his tenure, reiterated his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, stating that he fully backs the fight against corruption in Nigeria.
Accompanied by prominent Nigerians, the former governor expressed confidence in the professionalism of the EFCC and hoped his fundamental rights as a citizen would be respected during the engagement.
The details of his meeting with the EFCC are expected to be disclosed in due course.
