The Igbo community in Ondo State has officially endorsed Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for the 2024 governorship election. This endorsement follows Governor Aiyedatiwa’s promise to maintain an inclusive administration that welcomes residents from all ethnic backgrounds.
During a meeting held on Wednesday at the Cocoa Conference Hall in Akure with Igbo community leaders, including Chief Gregory Iloeika, Eze Ndigbo of Akure/Ondo State and National President of the Association of Ndieze Ndigbo in Diaspora, Governor Aiyedatiwa affirmed his administration’s commitment to unity and inclusivity. “Ondo State is free from tribalism, and it will continue to be a place where people from different ethnic backgrounds can live peacefully and thrive,” the Governor stated.
According to Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ondo State, he further emphasized the importance of unity among Nigerians, regardless of their tribal differences. “Despite our differences in tribes and tongues, we are all Nigerians first. Unity and brotherhood should transcend any cultural or linguistic barriers,” he added.
Chief Iloeika expressed his appreciation for Governor Aiyedatiwa’s inclusive policies, especially highlighting the appointment of Hon. Francis Belonwu, Hon. Barr. Isaiah Igwe, and Hon. Uche Okeafor as Special Assistants on Igbo Affairs in the state’s three senatorial zones, along with another Igbo individual as the Senior Special Assistant on Non-indigenes. “We are profoundly grateful for your commitment to inclusivity and for the support you have shown to the Igbo community in Ondo State,” Chief Iloeika said.
He also reassured the Governor of the Igbo community’s unwavering support in the upcoming governorship election, stating, “We are ready to play an active role in the election, reflecting our significant contribution to the state’s socio-economic progress over the years.”
Governor Aiyedatiwa reiterated his administration’s dedication to addressing any concerns the Igbo community might have, ensuring they feel supported and valued. “My administration is committed to your well-being, and you should feel confident in reaching out whenever you face any issues,” he assured.
The meeting was attended by prominent figures, including the Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami, the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Tayo Oluwatuyi, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prince Segun Omojuwa, and the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Engr. Ade Adetimehin.
The endorsement of Governor Aiyedatiwa by the Igbo community is seen as a significant boost ahead of the 2024 governorship election, underscoring his administration’s efforts to foster a harmonious and inclusive environment for all residents of Ondo State.
