President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors-designate to Nigeria’s diplomatic missions across the world, including the United Nations.
The appointments comprise 31 non-career ambassadors and 34 career ambassadors, whose nominations were earlier confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December last year.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the postings assign the envoys to various countries and international missions as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements.
Among the non-career ambassadors, former presidential aide Reno Omokri was posted to Mexico, while Femi Fani-Kayode will serve in Germany. Former Minister of Health Isaac Folorunso Adewole was posted to Canada, while businessman and politician Jimoh Ibrahim will represent Nigeria as Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Others include former Minister of Interior Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, posted to China, and former Deputy Governor of Lagos State Olufemi Pedro, who will serve in Australia.
The statement also noted that the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for High Commissioner-designate Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, while France has also approved the appointment of Ambassador Ayo Oke.
According to the presidency, nominations of the remaining envoys have been formally communicated to their respective host countries for diplomatic clearance in line with international practice.
President Tinubu has also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately commence induction programmes for the ambassadors and high commissioners ahead of their deployment to their respective missions.
