The Chairman of Akure North Local Government, Johnson Ogunbolude, has denied allegations circulating in a viral video accusing him of ordering the assault of a resident and confiscating his mobile phone.
In a statement issued by his media office on Monday, the council boss described the allegations as false, unfounded and malicious, insisting that he has never authorised or participated in any act of violence or intimidation.
The reaction followed the circulation of a video online in which a lady accused the chairman of directing the assault of her brother and personally seizing his phone.
Ogunbolude maintained that he is a peace-loving and law-abiding leader who has consistently upheld justice and responsible leadership across the 12 wards of the local government.
The statement noted that during the recent congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the area, the chairman played a stabilising role to ensure peaceful conduct and prevent breakdown of law and order.
It added that while disagreements may occur during political gatherings, such issues are usually resolved amicably, stressing that it was misleading to link the chairman to any alleged violent incident without credible evidence or reports from security agencies.
The chairman condemned what he described as defamatory content aimed at tarnishing his image and reputation, noting that there was no official report to law enforcement authorities to support the claims.
He urged members of the public to disregard the video and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing tension, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to peace, transparency and development.
