The Nigeria Police Force, Ondo State Command, has arrested 13 suspects in connection with the violent attack that disrupted the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress in Idanre on February 18, 2026, leaving two persons dead and three others injured.
The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, said the arrests followed a coordinated intelligence-led operation launched after the attack, which also resulted in the destruction of property and caused panic in the community.
Those arrested were identified as Adewusi, 38; Dele, 28; Akinkurole, 38; Victor, 30; Abbas, 30; Michael, 35; Jolojolo, 36; Ifedayo, 38; Olamilekan, 25; Emmanuel, 25; Sunday, 49; Michael, 55; and Monday, 25.
According to the police, operatives of the Idanre Division carried out strategic raids at identified locations based on credible intelligence and sustained surveillance, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
The Command said the suspects are currently in custody and have made useful statements to aid ongoing investigations, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other persons involved in the APC ward congress violence and determine the roles played by each suspect.
Lawal reiterated the Command’s determination to ensure justice is served and warned that the police would decisively deal with anyone or group threatening public peace, particularly during political activities.
He also appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his continued support and operational guidance.
The police urged residents and political stakeholders to remain calm, law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information to prevent further violence.
