After many years of neglect, the people of Imafon community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State can now heave a sigh of relief as Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa on Thursday flagged off the construction of the Akure–Imafon Road Project.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held at the NNPC–Imafon Junction, Igbatoro Road, Akure, Governor Aiyedatiwa described the project as another clear demonstration of his administration’s commitment to infrastructure renewal and improved service delivery across the state.
He said the road construction represents a strategic response to the long-standing yearnings of residents, adding that it marks a milestone in the fulfilment of promises made during his campaign and inauguration.
The governor appreciated the resilience and patience of residents, traditional rulers, and community leaders who had maintained the road through self-help efforts over the years, assuring that government has now taken over the responsibility.
Aiyedatiwa reiterated his administration’s resolve to bridge the state’s infrastructure gap by more than half before the end of his tenure, in line with the Renewed Hope Transformation Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He further assured residents that adjoining inner roads within the area would also receive government attention as part of efforts to ease movement and boost economic activities.
Chairman of Akure North Local Government, Johnson Ogunbolude, commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for the project, describing his leadership as people-oriented and assuring the governor of the council’s continued support.
Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing, Engr. Ayorinde Abiola Olawoye, explained that the Akure–Imafon Road spans six kilometres with a width of 10.3 metres, featuring several hydraulic and structural components.
He also noted that an additional 5.3-kilometre stretch had been awarded from Investment Structure to ShortRite Roundabout, linking the Federal Secretariat.
