The Federal Government will on Monday arraign five suspects allegedly responsible for the June 5, 2022 bombing of Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State, which claimed over 40 lives and left dozens injured.
The accused, Idris Omeiza, Al-Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, Abdulhaleem Idris, and Momoh Abubakar are to appear before Justice Obiorah Egwatu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, to face nine counts bordering on terrorism.
The attack, which occurred during Sunday mass, saw armed assailants invade the church, open fire on worshippers, and detonate explosives. Three years ago, the then Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, confirmed the arrest of the culprits, with the National Security Council linking the massacre to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
The high-profile arraignment is expected to mark a critical step in delivering justice for one of Nigeria’s deadliest church attacks in recent history.
