Ondo State Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) has held its maiden meeting in Akure, pledging to strengthen collaboration between the government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) as preparations build towards the 2027 general elections.
The high-level meeting, hosted by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, brought together influential APC leaders to deliberate on governance, party unity, and political strategy.
The GAC, chaired by former NNPC Limited Board Chairman and ex-APC National Vice Chairman, Chief Pius Akinyelure, was inaugurated to provide strategic counsel to the governor. Hon. Isaac Kekemeke, APC National Vice Chairman (South West) and former Ondo SSG, serves as the council’s secretary.
Speaking after the closed-door session, Akinyelure described the meeting as “fruitful” and aimed at bridging gaps between the government and the party.
“Our focus is the growth of the party and the success of the government. Whatever is going on in government is shared with the party to ensure smooth relations. I am encouraged by the participation and unity shown today,” he said.
Former APC National Vice Chairman (Southwest), Pastor Bankole Oluwajana, praised the governor’s inclusive leadership style.
“The governor accommodates everyone, regardless of past differences. This council allows elders to make suggestions, fostering unity and progress,” Oluwajana noted.
Former Senator, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice, commended Governor Aiyedatiwa’s fiscal discipline, highlighting that he has cleared salaries, avoided new debts, and paid off part of inherited liabilities.
“The council advises, not dictates. The governor retains the executive responsibility to make decisions for the benefit of the state,” Boroffice stressed.
GAC Secretary, Hon. Kekemeke, said the meeting reaffirmed Governor Aiyedatiwa as the undisputed leader of the APC in Ondo State. He added that while support groups remain welcome, they cannot operate as alternatives to the party structure.
“We agreed on collegiate leadership at the local level to promote inclusivity. Our party is one, without factions,” Kekemeke stated.
Other notable attendees included former Deputy Governor Alhaji Ali Olanusi, Gen. Funso Oyenehin (rtd), Ambassador Sola Iji, Senator Tayo Alasoadura, Chief Jamiu Ekungba, and Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti.
With the inaugural meeting concluded, the GAC is expected to serve as a strategic platform to harmonize governance and party politics in Ondo State, positioning the APC for a strong showing in the 2027 elections.
