The Lagos State Government has assured residents of a seamless and effective implementation of the seven newly enacted laws aimed at improving public safety, governance, and institutional development across the state.
The laws, signed into effect by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, cover critical areas such as emergency response, consumer protection, justice delivery, and leadership development. Five of the laws came into force on February 19, 2025, while the remaining two are scheduled for commencement on August 4, 2025.
In a statement, the Ministry of Justice emphasized that comprehensive measures have been put in place to ensure a smooth rollout. These include public sensitization campaigns, inter-agency coordination, and deployment of necessary infrastructure.
“We want Lagosians to know that these laws are for their benefit, and every effort has been made to ensure that implementation does not disrupt daily life but rather enhances the quality of services and governance,” said Mrs. Alo, a senior official at the Ministry.
She added that relevant ministries, departments, and agencies have been fully briefed and mobilized to carry out their responsibilities under the new legal frameworks.
The laws include the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Law, the Consumer Protection Agency Law, the Victim Assistance and Witness Protection Law, and the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy Law, among others.
According to the government, the staggered implementation timeline was designed to allow adequate preparation time for agencies and to ensure that the public is well-informed about their rights and responsibilities under the new laws.
“These reforms are part of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to building a safer, fairer, and more efficient Lagos. We urge residents to cooperate and engage with the relevant agencies for feedback and support,” the statement added.
The government has pledged continued engagement with stakeholders to monitor the rollout and make adjustments where necessary to ensure the intended impact is fully realized.
