As Ondo State gears up for the January 18 local government elections, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has called on All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates to remain focused and committed to victory.
Addressing chairmanship, vice-chairmanship, and councillorship candidates from the state’s 18 local government areas at the Cocoa Conference Hall in Akure, the Governor stressed the importance of building on the party’s successes.
“We have set a strong foundation as a party, and it is now up to us to build on it,” Governor Aiyedatiwa stated. “This election is not just about winning but about proving that our party remains the leading voice of the people. I assure you of my unwavering support as we head to the polls, but I urge you to avoid overconfidence. Let us remain focused and strategic in our approach.”
The event began with a moment of silence for the late Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Temitayo Oluwatuyi, whose contributions to the state were praised by the Governor.
Governor Aiyedatiwa urged the candidates to approach their campaigns with dedication and to prioritize impactful governance. “Our citizens are watching.
They want leaders who will not only represent them well but also deliver on their promises. Prove your capacity and capability to make a difference at the grassroots level,” he added.
The APC State Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, congratulated the candidates on their emergence and reminded them of their responsibilities.
“This is a defining moment for all of you. You carry the trust and hopes of the party and the people. Do not disappoint us. Be good ambassadors of the APC, and above all, do not betray the trust reposed in you,” Adetimehin stated.
He also emphasized the importance of grassroots mobilization, urging the candidates to intensify their campaigns to promote the party’s agenda of good governance.
Responding on behalf of the candidates, Gbenga Fasua of Akure South expressed gratitude to the governor and party leadership. “We are deeply honored for this opportunity and will do everything in our capacity to ensure the APC’s success at the polls,” he said.
With less than a week to the elections, Governor Aiyedatiwa’s call for focus and commitment underscores the stakes for the APC as it seeks to consolidate its influence across Ondo State.
