Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has presented a comprehensive budget of N655.23 billion for the 2025 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly, naming it the “Budget of Recovery.”
The budget, unveiled during a plenary session at the Assembly Complex in Akure, allocates 62.01% (N406.31 billion) to capital expenditure, while 37.99% (N248.92 billion) is set aside for recurrent spending.
The largest allocation, N238.57 billion, is dedicated to infrastructure development, emphasizing the government’s commitment to revitalizing the state’s economy.
Governor Aiyedatiwa explained the budget’s focus during his address, stating, “By the grace of God, we have delivered on our promises, and we now seek to consolidate our gains through the 2025 Budget.”
Education received N77.02 billion (11.80%), agriculture N56.10 billion (8.60%), and health N46.01 billion (7.00%), reflecting the administration’s priorities. Public finance was allocated N125.46 billion (19%), while sectors like environment, trade, and regional development also received notable funding.
The Governor lauded the peaceful conduct of the recent gubernatorial election, crediting his administration’s achievements for securing public trust.
Highlighting initiatives such as the Ondo State Mass Metering Scheme (O’Datiwa Meter) and the authorization of two electricity distribution companies, he assured citizens of improved energy services across the state.
“We are committed to completing ongoing projects and fostering a more prosperous future for Ondo State,” he said.
Reflecting on 2024, Aiyedatiwa noted a revised budget increase from N395.26 billion to N492.05 billion due to economic challenges like inflation and subsidy removal.
Despite hurdles, the state achieved 71.56% of its revenue target by the third quarter.
The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, praised the Governor’s accomplishments, pledging rigorous scrutiny of the proposed budget to ensure it benefits all citizens.
“We will ensure the budget delivers the desired impact on every Ondo citizen,” he said.
The 2025 budget aims to enhance infrastructure, boost agriculture, and adopt sustainable economic models, positioning Ondo State for growth and prosperity.
