The Ondo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) continues its 2024 Press Week with a mix of service to the community and spiritual reflection. Day two of the celebrations features a Charity Visitation to an orphanage in Akure and a Free Medical Outreach for journalists, veteran journalists, and their spouses at the NUJ Press Centre Clinic, Alagbaka, Akure.
The medical outreach, supported by the Ondo State Contributory Commission under the leadership of Dr. Abiodun Oyeneyin, will run for three days, providing essential health checks and treatments. The event is part of the NUJ’s commitment to the welfare of its members and their families.
Meanwhile, Day One of the Press Week opened with a Church Thanksgiving service at the Salvation Gospel International Centre, Akure, where the General Overseer, Senior Apostle Michael Ajibobola Foluso, delivered a powerful message urging attendees to show gratitude to God.
“Most people lose their miracles and breakthroughs because they give glory to individuals or idols instead of God Almighty when they receive blessings,” warned Senior Apostle Foluso. “God has declared Himself a jealous God and will not hesitate to show His displeasure when anyone gives His glory to an idol or individual.”
The cleric called on journalists and Nigerians at large to reflect on their lives and give thanks to God, particularly for the gift of life.
In response, the State Chairman of NUJ, Prince Leke Adegbite, emphasized the importance of starting the Press Week with thanksgiving.
“We usually begin our annual Press Week, which is like the Annual General Meeting of many big organizations, in appreciation of God Almighty for protecting us all through the year despite the various excruciating challenges in the country,” he stated. “This is a way of placing our lives and future in the hands of God Almighty for our protection and success in the coming year.”
Adegbite also thanked the General Overseer for his continuous support for the union, calling him “a man of great virtues.”
The thanksgiving service witnessed a large turnout of NUJ members, including the entire state executive. As the Press Week progresses, the union continues to prioritize not only professional development but also community service and spiritual rejuvenation.
