The Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) of the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Akure, has ushered in a new leadership to steer its affairs for the next three years.
The election, held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the school premises, drew parents, teachers, and dignitaries, including representatives from the Ministry of Education and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who served as observers.
Dr. (Mrs.) Idiat Lawal, the school principal and director, welcomed attendees with a call for continued collaboration to uphold the school’s reputation for academic and moral excellence.
“I deeply appreciate your unwavering support. Together, we have made FGGC Akure a beacon of learning, and I assure you of my continued dedication to the welfare of our students and staff,” she said.
Mrs. Ukamaka Okafor, representing the Minister of Education, urged parents and teachers to foster a harmonious partnership with the school leadership, emphasizing the importance of a transparent election process. “Fairness and credibility are the hallmarks of this election, and I believe these new leaders will further strengthen the school-community bond,” she stated.
The chairman of the electoral committee, Mr. Opeyemi Omole, affirmed the commitment to a free and transparent process. “We are ensuring every vote counts and that the election reflects the collective will of our PTA members,” he remarked.
The election featured contests for four key positions: Chairmanship, Vice Chairmanship, Treasurership, and Public Relations. Accreditation and voting ran concurrently, with over 300 eligible voters casting their ballots.
Four (4) positions were contested: Chairmanship, Vice Chairmanship, Treasurership, and Public Relations. The Chairmanship position had three (3) candidates, the Vice Chairmanship and Treasurership positions each had four (4) candidates, while two (2) candidates vied for the Public Relations position.
After a highly participative process, the following members emerged victorious:
•Chairman: Mrs. Omolola Omotunde
•Vice Chairman: Mr. Abdul Salam Musa
•Treasurer: Mrs. Olaleye Iyabode Elizabeth
•Public Relations Officer: Comrade Wahab Bankole
In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Omotunde expressed gratitude on behalf of the new executives. “This is a privilege and a call to serve. I thank you all for your trust and support. Together, we will work to ensure the progress and prosperity of this great institution,” she pledged.
The event concluded with renewed enthusiasm from parents and teachers, who expressed optimism about the future of FGGC Akure under the new PTA leadership.
