In the governorship election results announced at the collation center in Akure, Ayedatiwa Lucky Orimisan of the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious with a significant lead over his opponents.
The results, declared by the INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Olayemi Akinwunmi of the Federal University of Lokoja, revealed a dominant performance by the APC candidate, who secured 366,781 votes.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Ajayi Agboola, came in second with 117,845 votes, while other candidates trailed far behind. The Accord Party’s Falaye Ajibola managed only 186 votes, and Nejo Adeyemi of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) garnered 4,138 votes.
In his announcement, Prof. Akinwunmi emphasized the transparency of the process.
“The collation of results from all 18 Local Government Areas has been concluded in compliance with INEC’s guidelines. I hereby declare Ayedatiwa Lucky Orimisan of the APC the winner, having met the required constitutional criteria,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Labour Party result remains a subject of contention due to an ongoing court case seeking the substitution of its candidate’s name.
As residents of Ondo State await the official swearing-in of Ayedatiwa Lucky Orimisan on February 2025, the election underscores the continued dominance of the APC in the state, with observers noting the relatively peaceful conduct of the voting process.
