In preparation for the upcoming 2024 governorship election in Ondo State, scheduled for Saturday, November 16, the state government has announced that Friday, November 15, will be a work-free day for public servants.
This decision, made to facilitate ease of travel for civil servants returning to their home communities to vote, underscores the state’s commitment to encouraging active civic participation among its workforce.
According to a circular signed by O. F. Ayodele, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Head of Service, all accounting officers have been directed to inform staff across ministries, departments, and agencies of the work-free day.
This move is aimed at allowing government employees the time needed to prepare for and engage in the electoral process.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had previously set the election date for November 16, marking an important milestone for the people of Ondo as they prepare to elect their new governor.
The work-free day serves as an effort by the Ondo State Government to ensure high voter turnout, enabling public servants to fulfill their civic duty without hindrance.
