In a significant show of support ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) and the Association of Nigerian Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) in Ondo State have endorsed Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for re-election.
Hundreds of teachers gathered on Monday in Akure to back the governor, lauding his efforts to address their concerns since he took office ten months ago.
During the event, Comrade Tajudeen Balogun, Chairman of the Adhoc Committee on Public Affairs and Social Mobilization, voiced the gratitude of teachers across the state.
“We are gathered here this sunny Monday morning to express our profound gratitude to our governor for his quick and rapid interventions in ameliorating the challenges faced by teachers in Ondo State,” Balogun said. “In ten months of his reign as governor, he has shown passion and support towards meeting the yearnings of teachers in Ondo State.
I therefore stand here today with all members and executives of the various groups to rally support for your election on Saturday, November 16, 2024.”
He went on to encourage teachers and their families to come out in full force to vote for Aiyedatiwa. “We ascribe our solidarity and goodwill to the natural doctrine which states that ‘to whom much is given, much is expected,’” he added.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Aiyedatiwa thanked the associations for their endorsement and reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of teachers.
“I want to thank you, my friends and colleagues, for this show of support and solidarity. I am not oblivious of what the needs of teachers are. We were all trained by teachers, we have teachers as members of our families. So, we cannot pretend not to know your needs,” he assured. “We know all of these, and we will address them.”
With the backing of teachers across Ondo State, Aiyedatiwa’s campaign has gained momentum as the election approaches, marking a significant endorsement from education stakeholders.
