Newly sworn-in Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has pledged to improve the lives of Edo residents by delivering on his promises to enhance security, boost infrastructure, and support small businesses across the state.
Governor Okpebholo, who took his oath of office at a ceremony held on Tuesday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, vowed to bring meaningful development to Edo over the next four years.
“Today, you have officially given me the mandate to preside over our dear State as Governor for the next four years,” Okpebholo said during his inauguration speech. “We will not betray this confidence you have reposed in me and the Deputy Governor, Rt. Honourable Dennis Idahosa.”
Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, emerged victorious in the September 21 election, defeating his main rival, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Asue Ighodalo, among other contenders.
He expressed gratitude to the people of Edo for their support and peaceful conduct during the election.
“Democracy has triumphed again in our dear State,” he said. “For me, this is a humbling moment; made possible by you all. Again, I want to use this opportunity to thank you for your peaceful conduct during the 21st September 2024 Governorship Election.”
Governor Okpebholo also addressed the pressing issues of road infrastructure and insecurity in Edo, promising swift and firm action to improve conditions.
“The deplorable condition of our roads has made it difficult for people to move from one part of the State to another,” he said. “We will be firm in dealing with criminals and improve the security of our land so that farming and other business activities will flourish again.”
Furthermore, the governor highlighted his commitment to supporting small businesses and ensuring that the welfare of Edo citizens remains a priority.
He assured the people that he and his administration would work tirelessly to fulfill their promises, saying, “We will not betray this confidence.”
