Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has extended his support to Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, ahead of the upcoming gubernatorial election scheduled for Saturday.
During a visit on Monday to the Presidential Lodge at the Government House in Akure, Obasanjo recalled his own campaign experiences, offering encouragement to Aiyedatiwa as he prepares for the challenging political process.
Obasanjo, who was in Akure to commission Ojaja Park, an estate developed by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, took a moment to share a personal story from his 1999 campaign.
Reflecting on the demanding pace of that time, he noted, “I remember my campaign for the 1999 election; I covered the entire six states of the South West in one day. I think we started in Akure, Ondo State here, then to Ekiti, and we got to Lagos around 8pm. This is a crucial part of the process, and I wish you all the best.”
Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude for the visit, acknowledging Obasanjo’s lasting influence on Nigeria’s development.
He described the former President as “a good recurring decimal in the life of our nation,” a comment that prompted laughter from Obasanjo, who humorously suggested it might make an apt newspaper headline.
Aiyedatiwa went on to praise Obasanjo for his humility and humanity, despite his distinguished career and background.
He emphasized that Obasanjo’s leadership continues to serve as an example and source of inspiration across Nigeria.
The visit concluded on a high note, with both leaders sharing memories and words of encouragement, underscoring the deep respect between them.
