Athletes and sports enthusiasts in Ondo State have thrown their support behind Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, rallying for his re-election bid in anticipation of further sports development initiatives.
The rally, organized by the Special Interest Committee on Sports for the Aiyedatiwa/Adelami campaign, saw a large turnout at the Ondo State Sports Complex, culminating in a march to the Governor’s Office in Alagbaka, Akure.
Speaking through his Special Assistant on Political Matters, Mr. Smart Omodunbi, Governor Aiyedatiwa assured the sports community that his administration remains committed to advancing the sector.
“I am a sports-loving Governor, which is why I have the interests of sportsmen and women at heart,” he stated. “Rest assured that after the election, my commitment to this sector will remain steadfast, with many more developments planned for the sports council.”
The Governor called upon athletes and supporters to ensure a strong turnout for his ticket in the upcoming November 16 election, adding, “Since I assumed office as Governor, I have not disappointed you, and I never will.”
The event highlighted the Governor’s recent investments in Ondo’s sports infrastructure, including the renovation of the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure.
Representing the Chairman of the Special Committee on Sports for the Aiyedatiwa/Adelami campaign, Mr. Henry Babatunde praised the Governor’s contributions.
“Governor Aiyedatiwa has demonstrated his love and passion for sports by awarding contracts for the renovation of the Ondo State Sports Complex. This is changing the face of sports in Ondo State,” Babatunde said.
He emphasized that sports hold a place in every household, pledging that athletes would continue to support a government prioritizing their interests.
