In a significant move to address the financial and developmental needs of Ondo State, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa signed a N96.7 billion supplementary budget for 2024 into law.
The new budget, approved by the Ondo State House of Assembly, brings the state’s total 2024 budget to N492 billion, with allocations for both recurrent and capital expenditures.
The Governor formalized the supplementary budget on Tuesday at the Executive Council Chambers, noting that the funds are intended to address recent fiscal commitments, including the newly approved N73,000 minimum wage for state workers.
The budget also covers salaries for newly recruited employees across various sectors, a move intended to bolster public services across Ondo State.
Governor Aiyedatiwa underscored the importance of the supplementary budget, stating,
“This budget reflects our commitment to the welfare of our workers and the continued development of Ondo State. We are making strides towards a more prosperous and equitable future for all residents.”
In addition to the budget signing, Governor Aiyedatiwa enacted a law expanding the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) board to ensure greater inclusivity and equitable representation from mandate areas.
Furthermore, he assented to an amendment of the Ondo State House of Assembly Service Commission Law, strengthening the legislative support infrastructure within the state.
Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, praised Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership, acknowledging the Governor’s “vision, capacity, and passion” in driving state transformation efforts.
“These giant strides have not only transformed the State in all facets but have clearly demonstrated your vision, capacity, intellectual ability, zeal, passion, direction, and a clear understanding of the enormous job ahead,” Oladiji stated.
The Governor expressed gratitude to the State Assembly for their support and commitment, emphasizing that the approved measures would positively impact the lives of the citizens in Ondo State.
